Successful Petition Presentation!

Shows Catherine and Eugenie Sage and others and part of Coromandel No Mining banner on Parliaments steps

Thank you to everyone who made this happen!

We had a successful journey to Pōneke Wellington to deliver our petition asking the Government to place an immediate moratorium on accepting any applications for and any further processing or granting of, any prospecting, exploration or mining permits on, in or under public conservation land in Aotearoa New Zealand, including stewardship land, administered by Department of Conservation under the Conservation Act.

We took the signatures of more than 11,000 people with us, and were pleased to be joined by members of Te Pāti Maori, and the Green Party in support, and Labour MP’s from the Environment Select Committee – and journalists from various media.

The Petition was accepted be MP Eugenie Sage, Green Party MP and former Minister for Conservation, who spoke after Catherine Delahunty, Chair of Coromandel Watchdog of Hauraki, and Forest and Bird Youth Leader, George Hobson.
