Ka Nui! Enough! Conference, Rotorua, 25-26 August: How To Attend, Why To Attend

In August the New Zealand mining industry is meeting in Rotorua “to celebrate New Zealand mining and the contribution this important industry makes to the future of the community through science, engineering and economic development.”

So Coromandel Watchdog has teamed up with other groups around the country to host the  Ka Nui! Enough! conference at the same time. This will be a place to discuss the real impacts of mining on our economies, communities, and environment. We will also talk about how we can all work together to act to protect our precious environments and communities throughout Aotearoa.

Newmont Gold is one of the biggest threats to Coromandel communities. They hold over 40000HA worth of exploration permits on the peninsula including over conservation and Schedule 4 land. They are also continuing to expand in the residential area of Waihi, with residents living with ongoing impacts from the mines. They are also one of the major sponsors of the mining conference. We will be sending a clear message to them at this counter-conference: we have had enough!

We hope you’ll be able to attend.
